Russell Andrews, Director of Education & Planning, PfS

Russell Andrews

Russell Andrews became Director of Education and Planning at Partnerships for Schools in May 2006. Russell oversees a team of education directors, ICT advisers and sports advisers responsible for selecting and supporting local authorities through their first year in the Building Schools for the Future programme as they bring together their education and estate strategy for BSF.

Prior to joining PfS Russell was Assistant Director of Education in Nottingham City Council where he had responsibility for Standards and Effectiveness and for Schools Requiring Support and Intervention from 2002. Over that period he had oversaw the development of Nottingham’s strategy for raising standards in its secondary schools.

Russell’s career has also included posts in Leicester and Bury LEA’s where he worked on improvement strategies with primary and secondary schools. In each case he had responsibility for a range of LEA initiatives including 14-19 curriculum, English as an additional language and Science.

Russell taught for 16 years in urban secondary schools in West Yorkshire gaining valuable senior management experience over that period and retains a strong interest in the challenges of raising standards in the inner-city context.
